looking

A look into Chinese quarantine policies, one should be aware how exactly different life could be.

I hope this earthquake is the last one this year. Experiencing an earthquake during a vacation is definitely a downer.

flu

This flu activity is definitely different. The good news is the lack of resistance. It'll be interesting to see how quickly it happens. RNA viruses are prone to higher rates of mutation. Also, I'm sure that there's a person out there looking for the particular mutations it would take for the neuraminidase inhibitor resistance to occur. Then, it could wheedled down to a probability.

Interesting article about resistance and pandemics. Bad news is we are doomed.

id

I do find this guy intriguing in his thoughts about intelligent design. Maybe, he is some guy in his pajamas in front of his computer. However, he is informative and his ideas are thought provoking so I am mentally engaged.

Here is how to get those darn college students out of your town.

They don't make comics like they used to.

wikirific

I'm not amused about the Wiki story. I think it undermines the role that Wikipedia has on our lives. Wikipedia users need to be aware that citations are still very important. However, the beauty of Wiki is that false information is eventually corrected. It's the ultimate marketplace for information. However, as I recently observed on a Wiki page, Wiki doesn't escape bias or subjectivity of information. Immanuel Kant would be proud.

powerful brain

An answer to carpal tunnel syndrome? I think the reason the technology is popularized to gaming is that gaming requires repetitive key entries. Here's one person's review of the technology. I wouldn't call it a mouse, it is limited to the one axis.

pigs

Canadians are seeing human-pig infections of H1N1. What they know so far.

At least I'm not doing this.

readings

Interesting article on synthetic biology. The author is a Spaniard. I was looking for any information about bacterial integrons and OOP.

Here is a recent article on synthetic biology. I don't like phrase "designing life". It's like saying a programmer is designing a computer. I would rather call it "designing bioprograms". The original meaning of the word program is public notice or agenda.

@ work

Bacteria @ work. Or, they may need to look for a more resilient bacteria. The clay might decrease the ability of concrete to handle pressure.

Bilingual kids can also lead to adults who can't speak one language well. Sometimes, I find people who speak only one language fascinating. If they can't find the correct word, they have to wait for the right word instead of a multilinguist who sometimes finds the word in one language to discover it's not in the right language. I think of language like a pipe, words are the water. The more pipes you have, the longer it takes for all the words to get to the right place. Yes, I'm envious of people who don't confuse their subject/verb tenses or say, "Close the lights." Unfortunately, it's a choice that is made for you.
