grit
Why is it so hard to say the words "personal responsibility" these days? It's so much easier to say "corporate greed". I will admit it since I saw so much of it. My generation tries to live beyond their means. Leveraging wasn't just for businesses but seemed to be the building stone of life after college. People are living month by month.
Let's go to the AA creed as a nation. Let's admit to our addiction to debt. Will we have any leaders that will lead the way?
I'm also going to go on my soapbox about voting. Voting is the easiest thing you can do as an adult. Push a little button, lever, or key. No matter the method, it's easy! Anyone can take 15 minutes out of a day to make sure they are registered to vote and on Election day, vote!
I love Economist but if the world could vote in the US elections, we would be a series of colonies.

mind
I'm moving on to a new project and doing some research has led me again to fuzzy mathematics and fuzzy logic.
I wish mathematics could be taught backwards. If my teachers had told me that at the end of traversing through mathematical analysis and calculus, the other end would be alot more interesting. Those classes wouldn't have felt so torturous. If I had not be actively pushed through, my view would be different.
As a reminder, do not use birthdays as passwords! Otherwise, corrupt people will find out.

investment
When I was a state employee (in my other life), AIG was our 401K manager. I'm not sure state employees that were convinced to move to the private retirement management are going to like the current circumstances.
No matter how bad it's gotten, it still isn't yet as bad as the early 2000 recession. However, there is definitely a downward trend.

new
I learned today you can install Firefox without administrative privilege. You can just install it outside the C folder. I'm working alot more these days on public computers. Fortunately, I don't believe there is a lot of hackers in my niche population. One person asked me about Flash after I made a comment about it. Anyways, I'm compulsive about my public computer use habits. No danger can be too little.
I have noticed with the last few iterations of Firefox, it's eating more of my processing power when I use video plug-ins, for which IE is known to do. I'm not sure if it's a problem with my computer getting on the left end of the normal curve or something else.

Eureka is back! Spore is here! I'm not buying the game until the winter vacation when I can really play it!

government
Feds rescue Fannie, Freddie. Of course, they break this news on a Sunday where the market will get a day to adjust to the news. Unfortunately, I don't think the market's initial response will be a good one. The market will most likely see this event as a continual downturn of the US economy. However, it is also a sign of a proactive government. Ultimately though, the government rescue will come at a cost to tax payers indirectly.
I believe that the people in these two companies worked very hard to keep this rescue from happening but ultimately, the circumstances overtook them. I think the problem stemmed from their government mandate to ultimately cover the bad decisions made by others.
I can't wait until the stories, inevitably, come out.
BTW, there are over one million blog entries about this story.
I blogged about this almost three months ago.

speech
McCain's speech last night did again tell his POW story. However, I'm disturbed by some youths' blase attitude about his story. This man cannot lift his arms because they were never properly fixed. He has every right to tell his story again and again.
His speech is reminiscent of another war hero, JFK, when it talked about service to one's country. However, US sentiment trends toward "what can the country do for me" or "the country needs to change drastically but don't change my lifestyle" attitude.
Eight years ago, the presidential election was a reactionary event to 9/11 and now this election is also shaping up to be a reactionary event to the last eight years. Can we step forward without making it a reaction to our past?

women
Women are sometimes their own worst enemy. I am glad that women like Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin allow little girls to reach for the top.
It is well known that women fought against the women's right to vote which by the way, did not exist in the US until 1920. Progress moved forward nevertheless.
