sims & you
For those in the SF bay area, I came across this opportunity:
-------
The Sims -Quality Assurance (QA) Game Tester - Temporary Full Time
Do you live, eat, and breathe The Sims 2? Are you a US resident living in the San Francisco Bay Area and want to help contribute to the development of the best selling PC franchise of all time? Do unsightly software bugs drive you crazy? Would you like to help squish those nasty software glitches before they ever see the light of day?
--------
Anybody a Sims freak?

pity
The difference between data and information is a creative mind.
The evolution of information is simply four steps:
1) Create the data
2) Collect the data
3) Analyze the data
4) Transform the data
Maybe, my expectations are too high when I see companies just stop at step two.

siege
Thailand is under siege. Recently, my friend and I were arguing about trying to sympathize with citizens who don't have the security of a stable government. It's one thing to express shock and another, to say we understand.

news
Who else thinks that CNN is using their breaking news feature too much? Did Andre Agassi playing for the last time at the US Open really have the same footing as 2 killed in Bagdad? Now, it is killer spinach. I had decided to get a cucumber instead of a bag of spinach the other week.
A China finance craze is a scary concept. How efficient can the market be if the investors are not educated in the basics of investing? The name of the insurance company reminds me of some Upton Sinclair book. Can the market be efficient without the press to keep businesses honest? Where would American businesses be without the muckrakers?

reassurance
Lots of news of CEOs and lawyers lately, first HP, now Bristol Meyer (registration required). I'm not sure how reassuring it should be to investors. How does removing one or two people start to resolve problems that may exist in the company culture? Can a replacement really do any better?

bemused
This job ad sounds more like a complaint:
excellent negotiation skills, fast order execution in organised manner, inspect and check shipments before stuffing into the container, fast solution in case of complaints, documentation and manage the team
I can just imagine the unhappy receiving clerk and his managers.
Yum! Brands, Inc. is an interesting story to read. I think there is a case study on KFC. Here is a company whose long-term strategy has positioned it for certain success. Unlike other companies whose charts look like this, this company is really positioned very well. Wow, the fool even comments on its success.

ode to google
I love Gmail. I wish I had Gmail at work. I love Ajax. I wish other web applications had the functionality of Ajax.
Google Talk is okay. The only added feature is that I see my friends online when I reviewing my email and what they listening to. The bad part, the interruptions.

communication
Corresponding with a college freshman reminds me of the importance of email my freshman year. My problem had been that the only people with email back then were on campus somewhere. I remember darting to the computer lab with the hopes of new email, BS (Before Spam). That year, I discovered instant messaging too, a crude form of it but it was endlessly delightful and a distraction. Now, mobile phones are dominating the campus.
