short sighted
Groups of people can be easily lead to be short sighted. Each manager has certain goals they have meet and their goals comes first before anybody else. This could be in contrary to their customer's needs. It's easy to see how hurtful this mindset could be to the overall company. Achievement isn't great if it runs people and company to the ground. Yet, balancing goal-minded with overall good company health is a skill that separates the leaders from the managers.
There really is nothing new in the world of management.

I have found my dream ride.
I've read Vietnam-built scooters are not a good idea.

competition
Why would Microsoft try to compete in another market? Graphics are not their best field.

system care
I guess that one of the results from growing up with parents who valued their investments is my care about my computers. I consider not protecting your computer a form of abuse.
Microsoft changed their name for their anti-spyware to Windows Defender. I still like Adware better.

hearing and listening
It's good to hear that Apple might be phasing out the new Video iPod. I wouldn't be surprised to hear later that pushing the product out was a marketing idea or even Jobs'. This product was never a good fit in the marketplace because even before it came out, the general feeling on the Net was that it was not up to current video standards. Apple spends a great deal of effort to listen to its users and this is just the evidence.
On other topic of management styles. Recently, someone mentioned that you can't really change your management style. I believe there are some things you can't change and some things you can imitate. I think that if you really think about how your processes are set up and what style that may infer, your style will be perceived differently. Actions speak louder than words. All part of the learning experience.

good and bad
Nothing good comes out of cheap corporate financing. It causes sloppiness in business planning and opportunities for graft.
You should be aware of your online presence. And, it goes both ways. It's a great source of information but don't make assumptions based on it.

coming attractions
I love HDTV. Computers & TVs have finally come together like I hoped. Now, if we could just have high resolution, wall-sized screens, we'll be a little closer to the holodeck.
I have recently gone back to my "roots" and started watching Battlestar Galactica. It didn't take me long to get hooked.

for your information
Even though we know that information is perceived in different ways, I see many IT projects that deal with information in only one way. For example, by text, left to right, linearly. I like searches because they bring it out of some of those constraints.
Another thing I've learned. IT projects need to be separate from their creators and developers. Your initial work and energy into the project makes you blind to the weaknesses. I think this holds true for any position but particularly for IT since there are deliverables.
Swimming in information.

last day
It's my last day at my company. I came to the realization not too long ago that certain people can not trust in my abilities alone. They see only their own perceptions on who I am rather than what I have done or can accomplish. I feel that I can only change their perceptions to a certain point before I start losing myself in my manipulations. I need to stand as I am and have people appreciate me for who I am rather to change myself into something I am not. If the company or people can't appreciate me for who I am and what I can provide to the company, I am not a good fit.

decisions
Katrina emergency is continously revealing the effects of bad decisions. People who make bad decisions are like viruses. They can lie hidden for years making small mistakes and then, quickly become the meanest virus out there. And like viruses, they spread while those who make good decisions go unnoticed.
Good decision making is connected to principles. If you don't know you have them or have bad ones, you will eventually see the consequences of your actions. The Katrina aftermath also shows that how you handle your bad decisions is revealing of your ability to make decisions.
I really feel like I have gotten to this weird place where rejection, like, or bombing or things like that is kind of like it's a good kind of pain. Like you get a shot to the ribs sometimes and you go, eh, I'm alive, you know what I mean? Like it doesn't -- it doesn't -- you get to a certain baseline where you feel confident in your ability to do that tiny little thing that you do. And the other stuff that you've been allowed to do is sort of gravy, and if it doesn't work out, that's really all right.
Jon Stewart - Interview with Larry King
Stop producing websites that say nothing! What's Origami? Is it an iPod or a TabletPC? It's priced right in between.
Not a joke in some companies. Fakers are really good fakers.
John Bolton has definitely proven himself worthy of the UN ambassador post. The online version of the Economist has an article about the UN.
Globalisation vs. economic nationalism. I don't understand why more global businessmen miss this issue entirely. It's like the idea, "We can do it better" somehow doesn't get translated or worse, respected. So many things get lost in translation. The question is can you align staff overseas to see the company rather than country of origin?

dreams
Now that my friend has my dream car and though I do still like it; imitation just doesn't work for me. My new dream cars are the Prius (redesigned) and the Mini. The Prius is the kind of car that excites the early adopter in me. The Mini just is a fun car to drive around.
A sign that you have definitely made it in a marketplace is to be mentioned in someone's financial reports. Who is Weichai Power? They even tell you why the competition is not going to succeed!
Certain financial reports are so well written and in such a way that investors feel happy reading them. SOX is the best! Don't quite understand why commodity swaps are not considered financial instruments; they aren't really hedges.

headline
This AP headline, Google dive shows volatility made me laugh. And, I needed a laugh today. Its rise would have one of the first signs of volatility. It's a growth stock. This means if there is any sense of decrease or increase in the growth rate, stock prices are going to be affected. On good days, life as a stock broker must be exhilarating.
I think electronics should be banned from the classrooms and the conference rooms. I think they serve as a distraction most times and reduce the ability to listen. If time is so important to them, they would also respect the time of everyone else in the room.
