all things grey
Like Meredith says in Grey's Anatomy, maybe people never grow up. Why do adults throw temper tantrums, I'll never understand. If someone says "don't touch", please move on.

higher
A guy named Dr. Brilliant. I must be living in a comic book. What is Google doing with a physician? Or, what are they not going to be doing? Something tells me Dr. Brilliant's ideas are not going to stay just within google.org.
My observations about SOX. SOX definitely causes a lot more work for all public companies. A side effect of SOX is that it creates increased numbers of "games" or negotiations. What I mean by games are opportunities for coworkers to interact in which something is exchanged.
Nobody shares anymore. Some difficulty in finding an xml editor. I definitely didn't have such difficulty in HTML editor back when. Of course, I eventually have to go back to XMLSpy.

sharing
I disagree with this article about why nobody cheats on BitTorrent. I think plenty of people cheat. Also, the tribes Hales & Patarin is speaking about is too short-lived to make a difference if they are actually talking about bittorrents. However, tribal activity does exist in the private bittorrent sites where everyone is tagged with a ratio. Here is where behavior is rewarded or punished. People with low ratios are kicked out while high ratios are awarded with praise and more downloads. People brag about their high ratio numbers. How odd that we move so quickly into a hierarchial society.
One way that collaboration can work is by measuring cooperation numerically. Microsoft should build that into TeamPlace.
One more note about bittorrents. This technology had a steeper learning curve than Napster or eMule. I wonder if this is revealing increasing complexity in file sharing or just an evolutionary change to adapt to the lawsuits or both. It is definitely hot.

good staff
A good staff can keep you from public humiliation as proven by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. It's the things that you don't know that should scare you. Something is wrong with his staff.
I like The Daily Show. It is sharp & entertaining. I also watched The Constant Gardner last night. The movie was very good in telling of fascinating story about greed and governmental complacency.
How many people have seen police abuse their use of sirens to go through a red light?!? I have! The problem with being on top of the power pole is that you can abuse your power.
Another random idea. I'm recently remembering a conversation I had with a few of my classmates years ago. We were talking about work and how they felt very satisfied with their positions. They told me they had no need to look for other positions because they knew they were adequately satisfied in all areas of their job. They told me they couldn't find anything better. That speaks highly of the company.

hopeful
I had hoped comic blogs meant people drew their blog on a daily basis. Sigh.

all things wrong
Ben Bernake doesn't even get a title in this opinion about his new role as head of the Fed.
Nobody wants to predict the direction of the dollar. It is an uncertainty.

problem gaps
Complaints and blame occur when there is a gap between what is needed and what can be provided and either party doesn't move more toward the middle.
Just read a case analysis of someone being ripped apart because he was a consensus-building leader. I think one's culture also has to do with how much consensus is required as a leader. Unfortunately, no rule books are given when you pass through customs. Vroom-Jago would suggest that different times would call for different types of decision making. I'm pretty definite that neither consensus-building or decisive leader types would affect the bottom line by itself.

not fast enough
Intel's roadmap for the processor. These things never go as fast as predicted. I want the old laptop prices to drop! Dell & AMD.
Wow. I was just discussing today with someone concerning freedoms in Europe vs. US. The tension in the air is sizzling.

it's a small world after all
The world feels smaller as I grow older. I'm always astonished by the six degrees of separation. I've seen marriages arise from it. But, I'm always taken by surprise when I see friends pop up in my business arena. My friends and I seldomly talk about work; we never have the time. It's hard to imagine that relationships in the Virginia hills could have such potential.

phones
While looking for a new phone, I can across the cellular squirrel. Now, Stefan would just program it to say "Uh...huh" and "Yeah" periodically, it might work with some of my friends.

empathy
I can now empathize what being shunned by the Oscars might begin to feel like. This website has each page fading in! But, it won an award! Haha...no bitterness here.
On another topic, oddly enough, I think Ford is a good stock to buy. It may not do all things well; it does do some things well like a few product designs, branding, and working with its suppliers. It also has a tight IT staff, always valuable.
I think if you start thinking of everything in terms of buy, sell, or hold. It's time for a mindset adjustment.

being true
There is something contagious about being around people who enjoy themselves, whether it's their work, their hobbies, or their families. Those whose work becomes their lives also deprive themselves of the anchors that make them appealing to work with and trust. Being true to yourself means all parts of you, not only the part that brings you the greatest satisfaction.
On another topic, trust is such an commodity at work, why do people destroy it so easily especially managers. I've learned that managers probably also have the hardest time rebuilding it, that's why they borrow so much from others.
Lately, I'm also been exploring some of the local philantropic interests. There always seems to be new to see and do around where I am.

global
Why is it important for businessmen to know world politics? First, to practice their reading and critical thinking skills. Second, to understand the environment of which their business takes place. Third, to comprehend the impact of the business decisions they make.
I don't believe that Iran's referral to the UN Security Council will do much. US does not have much cooperation on the Security Council on its plans while it does have two superpowers eager to stretch their power capacity.
We undervalue governmental stability that isn't available to other countries such as Liberia.

proactivity
Can proactivity be taught? I believe proactivity arises from the passion of the work you do and the confidence to do it well. Working with less than passionate people is torture. Do not underestimate employees who actually like what they do.
Internet Explorer introduces tabbing. I like the tabbing in Firefox but I don't like the lack of opening a new window with the same information.
