water foam
Of all the will toward the ideal in mankind only a small part can manifest itself in public action. All the rest of this force must be content with small and obscure deeds. The sum of these, however, is a thousand times stronger than the acts of those who receive wide public recognition. The latter, compared to the former, are like the foam on the waves of a deep ocean.

no service
I think there is a conspiracy to keep me from my Internet service. Conversation with Verizon Support today:
"We need a Verizon phone number."
"I don't have a Verizon phone number."
"How can you get DSL without a Verizon phone number?"
"Your website says it's possible."
"I can't pull up your order information without a Verizon phone number."
"Ahhhh"
"We see two pending orders."
"Can you cancel one of them for me?"
"I can't do that, another department needs to do that. Let me transfer you. Please hold."
"Hello, may I have your Verizon number?"
"Ahhhhh."

tiny parasites
If news been slashdotted, it probably means people have already known about it for awhile. Tiny Parasites living on your web servers.
After a major event like a hurricane, it's interesting to see who had DRP and who included websites in their DRP planning. FPL has who and who doesn't have power in South Florida.
I'm in week 3 without Internet service. It seems that nobody (not Verizon or Cox) wants my business. Cox overcharges and their customer support doesn't know what they are responsible for and Verizon seems to have the same problem with their customer support.
"Our other department * deals with that issue."
"I just got tranferred from there."
"Let me tranfer you again. Please hold."
"Ahhhhhhhh!"

like we need more
I believe more people will be interested in turning off their TVs or becoming much more specific about what they watch in the future. Who knows how Microsoft TV will fit in that future?
Hmm...interesting company, Virage. They deal with computerized recognition of rich media.

different languages
There is something comforting about a person using their native language in conversations with you. I think it means that they have a certain comfort level with you.
In some of my conversations with others, I sometimes speak their language while they speak English. It helps for both of us to practice our respective languages. In other cases, I have to stop because explaining something in another language is very taxing and a lot of work.
I think being aware of global communications is the first step in understanding the changing world we live in. We now need to establish some global etiquette.

overpriced
Not only is American food overpriced, now I find that broadband is overpriced. A bowl of noodles last night was $11!

change
Finally! Apple has TV show downloads. You can't stop change by ignoring it! How resistant are you to change?

all things frustrating
Could Cox have been more frustrating today? I have switched. Finally, Verizon has figured out people really don't want voice. I found that it was actually cheaper than Cox. Anyways, I thought I would try it out for a year. Check out dslreports.

luck
I recently heard a CEO comment on the value of luck on the job. Basically, he said if he could pick luck or being good, he would pick luck. There is a story in the bible that talks about a guy who escapes death by his siblings and ridicule by his family to become the most important person behind the pharoah in Egypt. I always found the guys like that interesting because it seems nothing can deter their providence and who they are to become.
In Asia, luck is everything. Some people believe China's currency peg decisions may be affected by superstitution. Western views on business are not really so different. Both seem to have this immutable relationship with the unknown.

changes
Companies while they grow up seem to experience different industry forces. At least, Google seems to be doing that. Google just announced their partnership with Sun. I'm not sure if Sun is the old sick man or a teenager that's just lost his way. Let's see if Sun doesn't become the drag on Google. Google also seems to be diversifying too quickly, hopefully, it won't lose its identity.

geeks & nerds
For that computer geek among your friends (and everyone should have at least one), c-jump. Not a surprise, this link came from one of my ex-coworkers. Hmm...I wonder if I could encourage girls to play.
Speaking of females, Harriet Miers was just nominated as a Supreme Court justice.
I want to mark today as the day I first heard a prediction about the demise of Walmart. Yeah, it's going to because of gas instead of their crappy service. Walmart is at a five year low.
