information and collaboration
In the future, workers who hoard information and cannot collaborate are more likely to lose their jobs or get stuck in their positions.
I love using websites where people post problems and ideas. A website can be a highly functional area of collaboration but it's about how each person uses the tool. This is especially important working in a global environment.
Gilbert Huph: [in Huph's office] You know, Bob... a company...
Bob: Is like an enormous clock.
Gilbert Huph: ...Is like an enormous cl... Yes, precisely. But if one cog breaks then the whole process stops.

fear
"We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason if we dig deep in our history and doctrine and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate and to defend causes which were for the moment unpopular. We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot escape responsibility for the result. There is no way for a citizen of the Republic to abdicate his responsibility."

linux and business
Interesting article about Linux. I remember when Linux was still a developer's toy. My coworkers and friends would install it just to see how it ran. Nowadays, I know that business use have gone up and become more stable platform. As the article states, there are still problems but there is hope as well.
I think it's critical for small businesses or start-ups to look at Linux now instead of following the pied piper in Microsoft. As companies grow, you will become more tied to the platform you have chosen.

blogs & search
I guess people do really find blogs through search engines. Fortunately, I've been around so long, finding me is never a problem. I usually mention my blogs through personal emails.

fascination
This man and my professors makes me realize how little I know about operations. It also makes me wonder how much companies use tools like these. This area is my current fascination.
I would like to see a woman at the head of Sears.
Last night, I became addicted to a game called Jardinains. It's like a 21st century version of pong with a twist. Highly addictive.
Everyone is trying to guess where we are on the demand curve concerning oil. I read an article recently that said that the US government was to blame for some of the high oil prices before Hurricane Katrina. I feel sorry for the losers who placed money on the gas prices to continue rising short-term.
This story about a cat and her owner is interesting. I had a cat named Kitty. I like how MSNBC is using blogging.

holdem up
I was just reading about these poker bots. An idea that has reached its time. I like playing hold'em poker with friends, in person. There is something about looking into another person's eyes when you quietly but firmly state, "All in." The game is much more fun when it becomes about analyzing people and judging if you really know your friends.

clear as mud
I think I've stumbled onto an old problem, Crystal Reports vs. Access. As I say often on this site, it's how you use the tools. Drill down is possible with Excel. This feature was very important to my professor, headache to create.
Bottom line for me is: Is the usability/efficiencies of Crystal Reports greater than the costs of using it rather than Access/Excel? Similar to Macromedia Dreamweaver/Frontpage question.
Find out what Crystal Reports are.

crash
I watched Crash last night. I've been wanting to see this movie for a long time and my expectations were satisfied. Sandra Bullock was awesome in this movie.
I agree with the movie's premise that everyone is a racist. The movie though just leaves it there. Too many other corners (success stories, history) were left untouched. Anyways, very relevant with protests coming out of New Orleans.

disclaimer
I keep a track of visitors on my site on a regular basis.
It helps me to see who views my website, coworkers, friends, or anybody else. I think people who don't are missing out on great information. I also like to tease people who are too much interested in my site.

blogging
I blog because I feel like it and I'm a news addict. Blogging gives me a place to think through what I read.
Just installed Google Desktop v2. They changed some things but didn't change the exclude listing. I like the instant view of results. They are moving in a good direction. BTW, they use AJAX.

AJAX - Acronym for a really good idea.
The poor doesn't have to worry about where there is inflation or not. They are already losing their earning power.
